Who is Jo Calderone?

It is obvious that I am a big fan of Lady Gaga, anyone who knows me has surely listened to my poetic rants of her pop star perfection...weather they liked it or not. And the time has come for me to help yoü understand Jo Calderone.
Jo Calderone made his initial appearance in the most recent Gaga video Yoü and I. Even before the video was released, promotional shots of Gaga dressed in Jo drag appeared on the Internet as the cover for the single and were instantly embraced by Little Monsters everywhere (to be fair, anything this woman touches always has been, and always will be embraced by us).

After watching Yoü and I for the first time all I could think of was Jo Calderone...the perfectly crafted thorn amongst this years most fashion filled music video. The time and effort put into building this character did not go unnoticed, and Little Monsters flooded twitter feeds with his praises.

Days before MTV's Video Music Awards Lady Gaga was quoted saying that her VMA performance would be exactly what her real fans wanted...

And as the lights came up on the VMA stage, there was Jo, live and in color like we had never seen him before. Jo attended the entire ceremony, never once did Lady Gaga herself appear. Jo sat with Jay-Z,  Kanye,  and a glass of whiskey as Beyonce announced her pregnancy, and then, all while remaining Jo, threw his glass of whiskey to the feet of Jay-Z with excitement as he unexpectedly accepted the award for Best Female Video with tears in his eyes.

And for the record, as my previous blog on the Yoü and I video states, Jo is in head to to designer duds.
Jo was even present in the VMA press room, this footage was unusable due to the amount of profanity Jo used in his excitement...all of this after stubbing out his cigarette on the carpet.

Gaga is a performance artist, the unexpected is expected, and that is what draws us all to her.

If you are still baffled, open yourself up to art. It comes in all forms, and the best art is unexpected and open for interpretation.

Clueless, a blog's namesake.

I watched many movies in the 90's, but none had a larger impact on my style, voice, and memory than 1995's CLUELESS.

I was 10, Cher Horowitz 15, and I idolized her. So, when it came time to choose a name for my blog I found it fitting to pull from the single work that created the base upon which my love for fashion was built.
So, your are probably going, is this a noxzema commercial or what...but I actually have a reason for writing this blog.  Fall fashion is upon us, and back are the, preppy, ready to wear, 70's designs of Clueless.

Designer and Costumer Mona May pulled from European trends to style Cher and Dionn, thankfully, because at the time American fashion was in full Seattle Grunge mode. Cher had well over 50 outfits, and much like myself, girls everywhere started to emulate the style by ditching the plaid flannels and stepping into plaid skirts and knee to thigh socks.

So, its time to watch Clueless, the Fall ready to Wear shows from March, and make sure to plan your fall wardrobe accordingly. And now, here are some vocabulary words:

Betty: A pretty girl
Baldwin: A totally hot guy
Barney: An ugly or dopey guy
Monet: A girl who seems pretty from far away, but close up she is a mess.

Best of The Red Carpet Summer 2011

There was no telling what films would smash and which would flop this Summer at the box office, but the red carpet (or blue, or black carpet) was full of surprise hits, unexpected designers, and spot on wearable trends. Here are my favorite, and most memorable looks of the Summer.

At London premiere of the last instalment of Harry Potter Emma Watson did not disappoint fans or followers of fashion in the Oscar de la Renta gown with a hand beaded bodice and a full tulle skirt.

The Smurfs was the surprise hit of the summer, the only explainable reason I can come up with is this perfect Pop art dress by none other that Jean Charles de Castlebejac of whom Katy has been a longtime muse. This was certainly the Summer of Mrs. Brand, and this dress was perfect on the BLUE carpet.

Olivia Wilde teased with us with the side boob in this stunning Gucci gown at the London premiere of Cowboys vs. Aliens. This gown perfectly combines multiple fall runway trends.

The New York premiere of Friends with Benefits was a fashionably flat red black carpet until Hollywood's freshest redhead Emma Stone stepped onto it in a perfectly color blocked dress by obvious favorite designer Tom Ford, paired with nude heels, and this seasons IT hair style.

I (still) love Lucy, xoxo

When I was young I loved staying up late to watch I LOVE LUCY on Nick at Night. I remember fondly waking my sleeping family unable to contain my laughter watching the Vitametavegamin episode, and to this day I have not laughed so hard in my life.

When I was 13 my family took a trip to HOLLYWOOD where I collected as much LUCY memorabilia as I could get my hands on: post cards, posters, figurines,  books, you name it. I have never given up my collection, forgotten the laughter, or flinched in my adoration of the actress. And now as I sit writing this blog in my apartment overlooking Hollywood boulevard I owe an overwhelming amount of gratitude to her for inspiring me to live a life less ordinary.

Happy 100th Birthday Lucy!

What a view for the Ladies of THE VIEW

Today Lady GAGA joined the ladies of the View as a guest host. Of course it was just an extended interview of the pop star, but I doubt anyone watching was disappointed. They discussed the death of Amy Winehouse, Gaga's own drug use history (hinting of her marijuana use), and fashion followed by a brilliant performance of Gaga's latest single Yoü and I.

Gaga was covered head to to in Salvatore Ferragamo's Fall 2011 ready to wear hounds tooth, even her piano was covered by the designers print.

The anticipation for the Yoü and I video is growing!!!

Back to Black

It was wholly and completely saddening to hear of the death of Amy Jade Winehouse as I woke up in Las Vegas, I have been thinking of her, what her work meant to me, and how she inspired many in her tragically short lifetime.

I remember vividly the hearing her voice for the first time, but even more ingrained into my mind was the first time I saw an image of her. Not only was I shocked by the color of her skin, but I was pleasantly surprised at how her style perfectly portrayed the modernization of jazz.  Her beehive, vintage style tattoos, and insanely winged eyeliner will forever remind us of her, and the talent she bestowed upon us all.
